How does the receipt scanning work?
Point your camera at the receipt and take a photo. The app reads the text directly on your device — no image is ever uploaded anywhere.
The extracted text (item names and prices) is sent to a secure server that uses AI to structure it into a clean list. This requires an internet connection and usually takes a few seconds.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Not fully. The camera and text recognition work offline, but an internet connection is needed to parse the receipt into a structured list of items. Once a receipt has been scanned successfully, you can continue assigning and splitting without internet.
The scan got some items wrong. Can I fix them?
Yes — after scanning you'll land on a review screen where you can edit item names and prices, add missing items, or delete incorrect ones before moving on. You can also adjust the subtotal, tax, and tip fields there.
How do I assign an item to multiple people?
Select the first person from the bar at the bottom, then tap the item to assign them. Then select a different person and tap the same item again — it will be shared between both and the cost split evenly between them.
What's included in the Pro upgrade?
Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks:
• No ads
• Proportional tax & tip split (based on what each person ordered)
• Saved groups (reuse your regular group without re-entering names)
• Split history (browse and reshare past splits)
Unlimited scans and basic even splitting are free.
I bought Pro but it's showing as locked. How do I restore it?
Tap the upgrade prompt inside the app, then tap Restore Purchases. This will re-verify your purchase with the App Store or Google Play and unlock Pro again.
Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you used when you originally purchased.
How do the payment links work?
On the summary screen, tapping a person's total opens Bizum, Venmo, or PayPal on your device with the amount pre-filled. SplitBite does not process any payments — it simply opens the other app with the right number so you don't have to type it manually.
Why does the free version show ads?
Ads are how we keep the core app free. The free version shows banner ads between scans via Google AdMob. Upgrading to Pro removes all ads permanently.
Is my receipt data stored anywhere?
No. The text extracted from your receipt is sent to our server for parsing and discarded immediately after — it is never logged or stored. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
